April 15, 2024 is the First National Day of “Made In Italy”.
The Ministry of Business and Made In Italy created this day as a way for promoting and celebrating Italian craftsmanship, design, attention to detail and innovation.
The date is Leonardo da Vinci’s birth anniversary.
As many have done in the past months, we also had some fun with AI generated images. In January we input “Italian design medication trolley”. When we saw the result it immediately was an image perfect for this day! A a medication trolley on the iconic body of the three-wheeler Ape, designed by Piaggio in 1948… no funnier way to combine one of our products with Italian design!
What does Made In Italy mean? It means a brand of excellence in Italian craftsmanship and industry, is an icon of unparalleled style and quality. It is distinguished by beauty and elegance and the use of quality raw materials for manufacturing works coveted worldwide. It signifies a dedication to traditional techniques and a reputation for excellence in various industries such as, but not limited to fashion, automotive, and food.
Established in 1954, the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award (Golden Compass) is the oldest but above all the most authoritative world design award.
The brainchild of architect and designer Gio Ponti, it was organized for years by the La Rinascente department store in order to highlight the value and quality of Italian design products then in their infancy. It was later donated to the ADI (Associazione Disegno Industriale = Industrial Design Association), which has been in charge of its organization since 1958, overseeing its impartiality and integrity.
The more than 350 projects awarded in more than sixty years of the award’s life, together with the nearly 2000 selected with an Honorable Mention, are collected and preserved in the Historical Collection of the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award.
We wanted to highlight some Italian design icons. Choosing was hard… very hard! We opted for 3 gentlemen and 3 ladies.
